Psycho Realm A hip-hop trio related to Cypress Hill and signed to their Ruffhouse label, the Psycho Realm was formed by Jacken and Duke. The duo's performances impressed Cypress Hill's B-Real so much he decided to join the group on the recording, since Cypress Hill had recently broken up (they actually returned in mid-1998). With a Wu-Tang production style provided by the Psycho Ward -- actually B-Real, Jacken, and Duke, plus Cypress Hill percussion expert Bo-Bo -- they released their self-titled debut album in October 1997. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide |

The group issued Movement in September 2001, which culled material from two self-released records, Renacimeinto and Culture Of Resistence. The album included a guest appearance by Herbie Hancock drummer Mike Clark and a cover of the War classic "Spill The Wine. ~ Tom Demalon, All Music Guide

Los Nativos Throughout their eight years in existence, Los Nativos have polished their craft by taking all the music they have experienced to develop a Hip Hop structure accented by a broken Spanish and English flavor. With a conscious message, the lyrical style adds a political motivation, community awareness and current events of the world to give the listener a sense of what's going on in their world. By integrating Hip Hop, Jazz, Funk, Rhythm and Blues, Tejano, Mariachi, Salsa and Cumbia, the groups delivers an original musical collage of their own.

Quinto Sol Nine years after the band's inception, Quinto Sol releases their second independent album and first national release, Barrio Roots on Xicano Records and Film. Produced by and arranged by the QS band, and engineered by Johnny Alvarez and Mizraim Leal, the band's lead vocalist and guitar player, Barrio Roots documents music from a period that helped shape what is known today as the East L.A. arts "scene"; a contemporary Chicano-inspired arts movement where, incidentally bands like Quetzal and Ozomatli emerged and grew to international popularity. "It starts here," says Javier Villalobos, the drummer and backbone of the band. "Home, East L.A. or L.A. ... planting the seed to let you know where you come from and where you are headed - to not forget your roots and culture….we're just trying to give something back that's positive." |

Self Scientific The duo of Chance Infinite (Aaron Johnson) and DJ Khalil (Khalil Abdul-Rahman) met each other in Southern California at a basketball camp and reserved some of their energy for off-court activities. In 1994, the two recorded a demo as a group called the Numbskulls and were subsequently signed to a single deal with Loud Records in 1995. Unsatisfied with the attention they were receiving from Loud, they started to roam the underground L.A. music scene, selling mix tapes to whomever would buy them. They eventually helped form a record label called S.O.L. Music Works, Inc. with Frank "Nebula" Correa. Their breakthrough came through when the hip-hop community put their single "Return" in rotation, with its call to bring back hip-hop to where it used to be. The single is also included on their debut album, released in 2001, entitled The Self Science. ~ Brad Mills, All Music Guide |
