Suicidal Tendencies

Judging from their name, Suicidal Tendencies were never afraid of a little controversy. Formed in Venice, CA, during the early '80s, the group's leader from the beginning was outspoken vocalist Mike Muir. The outfit specialized in vicious hardcore early on -- building a huge following among skateboarders, lending a major hand in the creation of skate-punk -- before turning their focus eventually to thrash metal. Suicidal Tendencies had a rough start that included being voted "Worst Band/Biggest Assholes, and there were many rumors of the band members being involved with gangs. Using the rumors and opposition to fuel creativity, they quickly gained a huge following and began performing at larger gigs and eventually all that controversy helped the band gain label attention. Still to this day, Suicidal Tendencies proves themselves influential to speed/thrash metal and punk rock bands worldwide. Their performance at last years We The People Festival stood out amongst those who witnessed as a peak experience of the event. Suicidal Tendencies masterfully exposed the tensions, frustrations, and raw energy upheld by the often under-heard, and definitely not as loud, public masses. We The People cant wait to see how they bring it this time around.
